Character Party!!!

Friday

This morning I was asked an extremely difficult question. I have spent several long minutes determining the answer, but this is a topic close to my heart. The question was this: If you could invite seven fictional characters to a dinner party, who would they be, and where would they sit if it was a round table with eight seats.

Of course, I would be one of the eight– seven fictional characters, dead or alive. My guest list would be so long! My first method of answering this was to list great characters (In alphabetical order). Of course, this is far from complete, but off the top of my head:

  • Abed Nadir (Community)
  • Amy Pond (Doctor Who)
  • Aslan (Chronicles of Narnia)
  • Bilbo Baggins (The Hobbit/LOTR)
  • Bruce Wayne (Batman)
  • Danielle De Barbarac (Ever After)
  • Darth Vadar (Star Wars)
  • Lt. Comm. Data (Star Trek: Next Generation)
  • Diana Troi (Star Trek: Next Generation)
  • The Doctor (Doctor Who)
  • Ender (Ender’s Game)
  • Gandalf (The Hobbit/LOTR)
  • Mr. Gold (Once Upon A Time)
  • Hadassah (A Voice In The Wind)
  • Harry Potter (Harry Potter)
  • Hazel Grace Lancaster (The Fault in our Stars)
  • Hermione Granger (Harry Potter)
  • Hook (Once Upon A Time)
  • Cpt. Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Carribean)
  • Cpt. Jean Luc Picard (Star Trek: Next Generation)
  • Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games)
  • Mary Margaret Blanchard (Once Upon A Time)
  • Monk (Monk)
  • Neytiri (Avatar)
  • Peeta Malark (The Hunger Games)
  • Peter Parker (Spiderman)
  • Regina (Once Upon A Time)
  • Sheldon Cooper (Big Bang Theory)
  • Lt. Comm. Spock (Star Trek: Original Series)
  • Steve Rogers (Captain America)
  • Susan Pevensie (Chronicles of Narnia)
  • Tony Stark (Iron Man)
  • Trinity (Matrix)
  • Yoda (Star Wars)

The next step, once you have your list of candidates, would be to determine what kind of group you’d like to have. An intellectual battle of wits? A strong-willed and heated debate on public policies? Creepy characters? Strong female leads? A mixture of contrasting characters? How do you choose?

If I went with a more heated combination, I’d choose:

  1. Bruce Wayne (Batman)
  2. Darth Vadar (Star Wars)
  3. Gandalf (The Hobbit/LOTR)
  4. Mr. Gold (Once Upon A Time)
  5. Cpt. Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Carribean)
  6. Steve Rogers (Captain America)
  7. Tony Stark (Iron Man)
Something with intense intellect:
  1. Abed Nadir (Community)
  2. Lt. Comm. Data (Star Trek: Next Generation)
  3. The Doctor (Doctor Who)
  4. Monk (Monk)
  5. Sheldon Cooper (Big Bang Theory)
  6. Lt. Comm. Spock (Star Trek: Original Series)
  7. Tony Stark (Iron Man)
Something with a more philosophical theme:
  1. Aslan (Chronicles of Narnia)
  2. Diana Troi (Star Trek: Next Generation)
  3. The Doctor (Doctor Who)
  4. Gandalf (The Hobbit/LOTR)
  5. Hazel Grace Lancaster (The Fault in our Stars)
  6. Cpt. Jean Luc Picard (Star Trek: Next Generation)
  7. Yoda (Star Wars)
As you can see, this is such a hard choice. And I haven’t even gotten started on a seating arrangement!!
